Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Women's Air Racing

Airmail Greetings is very proud to help sponsor the celebration the 80th Anniversary of America's first women's air race, the 1929 Powder Puff Derby. Originally nicknamed by actor/comedian Will Rogers, this historic air derby is now know as the Air Race Classic.

At 8:00 AM on the morning of June 23rd, 2009, contemporary women aviators from all over the country will begin to launch from Centennial Airport in Colorado, to race the 2,714 mile VFR course to finish in Atlantic, IA on June 26th to a cheering heroes welcome. With the start of the race hosted by the Colorado Chapter of the Ninety Nines, each pilot will compete much as the original 19 racers did in 1929 which included aviation icons such as; Amelia Earhart, Pancho Barnes, Marvel Crosson, Bobbi Trout and legendary winner, Louise Thaden.

Along with scheduled PR event and welcome reception to be held on the 20th of June, Airmail Greetings personally invites special guests, Hollywood Producer/Film Maker Nick Spark, and Director, Amanda Pope, to join in this historic celebration with a special premier screening of their newly released documentary, "The Legend of Pancho Barnes & the Happy Bottom Riding Club". We are very excited to have Nick and Amanda on board for this event to share their poienient aviation film which is narrated by actor, Tom Skerritt, and features academy award winning actress Kathy Bates, playing the voice of Pancho Barnes.

We encourage you to visit the Air Race Classic website and look up all of the 10 cities along the race course and make time this June to be on hand at these airports to personally cheer on these adventurous women aviators.
